Cricket's three formats and Bangladesh's favourite tournaments
Understanding cricket betting starts with knowing the formats, because the style of play differs in each and the betting markets behave differently as a result.
T20 is the fastest format — in just 20 overs, runs come quickly, wickets fall suddenly, and the result stays uncertain until the final over. That is why T20 is the most popular format for live betting. ODI cricket over 50 overs involves more strategy and patience, and odds are generally more stable. Test cricket is a five-day contest — here, a draw is a possible result alongside a win, so the markets are structured differently.
Among tournaments, BPL carries the most emotional weight for Bangladeshi fans, as the country's top cricketers take the field alongside international stars. IPL is also hugely popular among Bangladeshi fans and its betting markets stay active throughout the day. okzz also pays special attention to the T20 World Cup, the ICC Champions Trophy, and Bangladesh Tigers matches in bilateral series.
Compared to football and other sports, cricket betting offers a bit more variety. Football markets are built mainly around the 90-minute result — 1×2 (home/draw/away) is the most familiar there. Cricket has no draw in T20 or ODI, so the match winner market is a straight choice between two teams. Cricket also offers over-by-over runs, partnerships, innings-by-innings markets and many more options. Those who enjoy casino games alongside sport will find roulette, baccarat and live dealer games at the virtual casino.
7 popular markets — a simple explanation of each
Understanding the markets before you start betting makes it easier to decide. Below is a brief look at seven common cricket markets available at okzz.
Match Winner
Who wins between two teams — the simplest market. Separate odds are listed for Team A and Team B. There is no draw in T20 or ODI, so you pick one outcome.
Toss Winner
A bet on which team wins the toss before the match. The toss matters in cricket because choosing to bat or bowl based on pitch conditions and weather can give a team an advantage.
Top Batsman
A bet on which batter will score the most runs in the match. Many people use a team's top-order position and the nature of the pitch to guide their choice in this market.
Total Runs Over/Under
A bet on whether the total runs in an innings or the whole match will be more (over) or less (under) than a set number. Example: if the line is 150, a score of 151 means over wins.
Multi Bet (Parlay)
Combining multiple matches or markets into a single bet. If all selections are correct the return is much higher, but a single wrong selection loses the entire bet.
Partnership Runs
An over/under market on how many runs two batters will add together. This market refreshes when a new batter comes to the crease, making it especially popular in-play.
Time of First Wicket
A bet on which over the first wicket will fall in. Swing from new-ball pacers, pitch conditions, and the batting team's opening pair all come into play — making this a strategy-driven market. It moves very quickly in T20.
Odds in three formats — how to read each one
Betting platforms typically display odds in three formats: Decimal, Fractional, and American. Most players in Bangladesh are most comfortable with the decimal format.
Here is an example — say ৳500 is placed on Team A to win. The same odds look like this across the three formats: Decimal 3.00 = Fractional 2/1 = American +200. If Team A wins, the return is ৳1,500 — that is ৳1,000 profit plus the original ৳500 stake back. If they lose, only ৳500 is lost.
Now suppose Team B is the favourite, with odds of: Decimal 1.80 = Fractional 4/5 = American -125. A negative American odds figure shows how much you need to stake to make ৳100 profit. A ৳500 bet returns ৳900 — including ৳400 profit.
The higher the decimal number, the less likely the platform considers that outcome — and the higher the return. A favourite's decimal odds are usually below 2.00.
Comparison of the three formats
| Format | Team A (Underdog) | Team B (Favourite) | How to read it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Decimal | 3.00 | 1.80 | Stake × Odds = Total Return |
| Fractional | 2/1 | 4/5 | First number is profit, second number is stake |
| American | +200 | -125 | + means profit on ৳100 stake; − means how much to stake for ৳100 profit |
Live Betting — odds change the moment a wicket falls
New opportunities every ball in-play
You can bet after the match has started — odds update after every wicket, every over, and even every ball.
In-play or live betting is the most dynamic part of cricket betting. The odds set before the match start change constantly as the situation develops.
Say 5 wickets have fallen in 10 overs — as the batting team's chance of winning drops, their odds lengthen and the fielding team's odds shorten. In the same way, a strong powerplay start rapidly shortens the batting team's odds.
In T20, the last 5 overs can turn a match completely, as aggressive batting and the size of the ground can produce six after six. This rapid change is exactly what draws many people to live betting.
That said, live betting requires quick decisions, so it is better to analyse the situation rather than act on impulse. Betting is always for entertainment — not as a guaranteed route to profit.
Multi Bet and Betting Exchange — in brief
A multi bet (parlay or accumulator) combines multiple selections into one bet. The odds of each selection are multiplied together to produce a larger combined odds figure. For example, taking odds of 1.70, 1.80 and 1.90 across three matches gives combined odds of 1.70 × 1.80 × 1.90 = 5.81 (approximately). So a ৳100 bet returns ৳581 — but only if all three selections are correct. One wrong selection and the entire ৳100 is lost.
In a betting exchange, you bet against other bettors rather than against the platform. There are two roles: BACK means betting in favour of an outcome, and LAY means betting against it. Say you BACK Team A at decimal 2.00 with ৳500 — if Team A wins you make ৳500 profit; if they do not, you lose ৳500. LAY is the reverse — if Team A does not win you make ৳500 profit; if they do, you pay ৳500 (the liability). A commission may apply in both cases.

Some practical tips for betting
- Set a budget: Decide in advance how much you will bet on each match. Only put down what you can afford to lose.
- Know the format: T20, ODI and Test each have a different pace — start with the format you understand best.
- Build skill in one market: Rather than betting across all markets at once, focus on just one to begin with — match winner or over/under, for example.
- Take your time in live betting: In-play, avoid rushing — watch how the match is developing before making a decision.
- Keep multi bets small: Multi bets can look attractive because of the potential return, but getting every selection right is difficult — keep the number of selections low.
- Treat it as entertainment: Betting is not a source of income — use it as an added way to enjoy cricket. Learn more about responsible betting.
